Total Vein Care was founded by Dr. Steven L. Kaufman, a board-certified general surgeon who has served the Front Range for more than 20 years. He was certified by the American Board of Phlebology in July 2008. This charter class includes 248 diplomates nationwide. The American Board of Phlebology was formed shortly after the American Medical Association designated Phlebology, the diagnosis and treatment of vein disorders, as a distrinct medical specialty. Dr. Kaufman is also a member of the VNUS Medical Technologies Medical Advisory Board because of his unique expertise in the treatment of incompotent perforating veins.

Dr. Kaufman is a board-certified surgeon and phlebologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of vein disorders. He is Northern Colorado’s leading vein care specialist, with the education, experience, advanced training, and positive patient outcomes to make him the preferred choice for the care of your vein problem.
Dr. Kaufman received his B.A. degree in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, with distinction, from the University of Colorado. He then earned a Ph.D. in Genetics from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Kaufman completed his surgery residency at New York University/Bellevue Medical Center in New York City, and at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
For 15 years, Dr. Kaufman practiced General, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was also an Attending Surgeon at the Cheyenne Veterans Administration Medical Center.
In 2001, Dr. Kaufman relocated his practice to Northern Colorado. He is an active staff member of the Department of Surgery at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also a consultant at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado.
Dr. Kaufman is licensed in Colorado and Wyoming. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of several professional societies, including the American Venous Forum, the American College of Phlebology, the American Medical Association, the Colorado and Larimer County Medical Societies, and the Denver Academy of Surgery.
