Laser
The first laser became available in the United States in 2002. Now there are at least seven companies selling lasers, employing different wavelengths and treatment protocols. Laser offers similar effectiveness to VNUS Closure® radiofrequency ablation, when enough energy is used to destroy the vein directly. As the tip of the laser fiber reaches approximately 700° C, its contact with the vein wall leads to perforation resulting in post-operative bruising and pain.
